App settings holds the settings that apply across your whole store, rather than to one group. This article goes through each section in the order you see it.
App language
Changes the language of the SA Variants dashboard on your device. It does not change anything shoppers see.
To translate the words SA Variants adds to your store, use the Localization page. It appears in the menu when your store sells in more than one language.
Groups with product tags (Pro)
Group products by tagging them in your Shopify admin, instead of building each group in the app. Give every product that belongs together the same tag, in the format SAPG:: followed by a name, such as SAPG::floral-dress. The app connects them as a group.
This suits stores that already manage products with tags, or that add new colors often. Click Read the guide in this section for the full tag format.
On Standard, this section is locked. Some stores qualify for free access. Ask us in chat.
Badge settings (Pro)
Badges are small labels on swatches. There are three:
Badge | Shows when |
New | The product was added recently. New badge duration sets how many days it counts as new. |
Sale | The product is on sale. Sale threshold sets when it starts to show. |
Sold out | The product is out of stock. |
For each badge, set the Badge text, Fill color and Font color. You can also choose to show it only when all of a product's variants are new, on sale or sold out.
Badges show on swatches through the Badges powerup. Turn it on in the style, in Customize styles.
Low inventory alert (Pro)
Shows a short message on the swatch when a product is running low, to give shoppers a reason not to wait.
Stock quantity threshold sets when the message appears, such as 5 or fewer left.
Label template sets the wording.
The alert shows on the Polaroid swatch style, through the Low stock alert powerup.
Page settings
Chooses where on your store SA Variants shows swatches. Tick or untick each place:
Home page — featured product, product grid
Collection and search page — product grid, quick view
Product page — main product, product grid
Collections list, Cart, Pages, and Blogs and articles
If swatches show in one place but not another, check this section first.
Add online store password
This section appears only when your online store is password protected. Adding the password here lets our team view your store when you ask for help, so you do not have to send it in chat.
Theme status
SA Variants only shows on your store when it is switched on in your theme. This switch is called the app embed, and it is set for each theme separately.
Click Manage app embeds to see your themes and whether the app is on for each one.
Published theme is the theme shoppers see. The app must be on here.
Unpublished theme lists your other themes, so you can switch the app on before you publish a new theme.
Click Manage block to open that theme in the theme editor.
To switch the app on:
Open the theme in the theme editor.
Go to App embeds and turn on SA Variants.
Click Save.
Changing or updating your theme? Turn SA Variants on in the new theme as well. If you switch themes and the swatches disappear, this is almost always why.
